Baby Hats

I’ve made a couple baby hats recently that I just realized haven’t had any blog time! For shame.

First I made this little hat for the newest member of the Yandell clan:

It totally cracks me up. Just adorable. Who doesn’t want an upside down flower on their head? Indeed. That’s one of the best things about babies — they can’t protest! Well, not much anyway.

The purple yarn for this is Rowan Cashsoft dk (YUM so very soft, very fine halo as well) while the flower parts are the recommended Rowan Handknit Cotton. The cotton is much heavier than the Cashsoft so I was concerned about that, but it seemed to hold up okay. I didn’t follow directions by not pinning the flower petals to the hat before sewing on, so there’s only five petals instead of six. Oops. I still think it’s cute though.

This is the pumpkin hat that didn’t get done for Halloween. Oops! Isn’t it adorable though? I made it big so I have vague hopes it will fit next year as well. The orange yarn is Lana Grossa Numero Uno Tweed (discontinued) — less than one ball. The other bits are random cotton. I LOVE this hat. I put it on him all the time and get comments all the time as well! Unfortunately he can get it off on his own now.

Both of these hat patterns are from Itty Bitty Hats. You have no idea how many times I’ve almost sold or given away this book. Just thought I’d never make anything from it. Now suddenly I love it. Who knew?

And finally here’s the infamous sweater I did twice. This is the 12-18 month size. The pattern is the Placket Neck Child’s Pullover (or something like that) from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. Can I just say this is absolutely no way a last minute gift. Not for me anyway.

Despite that, I think it’s cute. I love that he has a nice, warm wool sweater to wear now. The neck fits funny though — it’s a bit wide and falls off him in cardigan mode. Doesn’t help I haven’t put buttons on yet though! I finally ordered some yesterday after losing hope that I’d ever make it to Joann’s.  These buttons. Cute, yes? I hope it will fit better with some fastening. Same yarn as above.

Ahhh.. my little pumpkin. Obviously I’m biased, but I think he’s so stinkin’ cute! I wish I had time to knit baby clothes all the time!

Next up in the baby department is a sweater for a cousin with a baby due in March! I can’t decide what pattern to do though. My default is the Elizabeth Zimmerman Surprise Jacket, but I sort of feel like doing something new. Just not sure what!

Any suggestions?

I love the little hats! My needles haven’t seen the light of day in months. What about this sweater?

If it’s a girl-the february sweater. I like it done in stockinette for the top. You could change the lace to cables and it would be more manish, if it’s a boy.
