Getting Back in the Groove
I made my first cloth diaper in a while tonight. Actually the fabric has been cut out for a while but my serger was on the blitz.
Even before we started having trouble with stinky pockets, I wanted to move to cloth under wool soakers at nighttime. More breathable and hey, cuter. Soakers are great :)
Problem is hardly any of our diapers are suitable for true nights except the pockets. I have some cotton pockets that I made but I can’t seem to stuff them enough! Either that, or my soakers aren’t thick enough.
So! I am knitting a super thick soaker, and I just made a nighttime diapers as suggested at sewdiapers.com. Basically it’s a fitted diaper with an external, super thick (two layers of thick!) soaker. And then the whole thing plus the soaker is fleece lined. Ridiculously thick really! Two layers in the body, 3 layers in each soaker for a total of 6 in the soaker, which makes 8 layers total. I used hemp fleece to boot, hemp being lovely and absorbant.
SO! As soon as I finish the super thick soaker, we’ll see how it goes! If all goes well, I’ll need to a) make another soaker and b) make about 5 more diapers. H will be pleased — he’s been harassing me to use up my cloth stash!
Other diaper projects on the go… Recycled diapers with the pattern from Fern and Faerie. I have lots of denim and t-shirts waiting to be converted instead of being donated to Goodwill! Plus they’re not only cute, but the denim is so thick you often don’t need a cover.
